What is pelvic
organ prolapse?
Pelvic
organ prolapse is the protrusion of an organ into the vagina or vaginal
wall. It occurs due to a weakening of or damage to the vaginal wall or
pelvic floor muscles. It is estimated that up to 40% of women experience
pelvic organ prolapse. It can affect women of any age. Those in
menopause or that have recently given birth are most at risk. There are
several forms of prolapse, depending upon the area of prolapse.
