Prevention of pelvic organ prolapse

 

It is important for women to understand how they can reduce their chances of developing pelvic organ prolapse. Women are especially susceptible at certain times:
 

Postpartum: due to a weakness of the vaginal walls it is best to be very careful for several months
 

After pelvic surgery or a hysterectomy: surgery can weaken or injure the vaginal walls, and a hysterectomy reduces the natural support of the pelvic organs upon each other
 

After menopause: a lack of estrogen can leave the vaginal walls weaker and less elastic
